Child Behavioural Interventions with Parents as Partners
Behavioural support for children works best when adults around the child share a plan. We focus on triggers, skills teaching, and consistent responses — not blame or quick punishment fixes.
- Format: Parent–child · School liaison when useful
- Used when: Aggression, refusal, meltdowns, defiance or school behaviour concerns need a structured plan.
- Sessions: Parent-inclusive · Skills at home
The method
What This Pathway Is
Child behavioural interventions combine child-facing work with parent coaching. We identify what the behaviour is communicating, what maintains it, and what adults can change first.
Plans typically include clear expectations, reinforcement of desired skills, calm responses to escalation, and consistency between caregivers — and school when appropriate.
This is the method view. For concern-led browsing (behavioural concerns, ADHD support), use the Child Psychology hub.
In session
How Sessions Unfold
Understand
Map triggers, settings, and what the behaviour achieves for the child.
Align Adults
Agree a simple, consistent adult response plan across caregivers.
Teach Skills
Build replacement skills (emotion, communication, routine) at the child’s level.
Review
Track what improved, what still escalates, and adjust the plan with school input if needed.
A good match
Who It Fits
- Parents of younger children with persistent behaviour difficulties
- Families wanting a practical plan rather than only talk therapy for the child
- Situations where home and school need a shared approach
- Children who benefit from short, concrete skill practice
Behavioural plans are collaborative and non-punitive. They do not replace safeguarding, medical evaluation or specialised educational decisions when those are indicated.
