For you
Overthinking is usually not stupidity. It is a mind trying to prevent a replay of something that once hurt — a look, a mistake, an unpredictable parent, a public failure. The loop feels responsible. In the room I will often ask: is this producing a next step, or is it circling the same three sentences? Problem-solving ends. Rumination does not.
Practically, give the loop a fence. Ten minutes with a page: write the worry, write one action if there is one, then close the notebook. When it returns — and it will — say, “I have already done that slot.” Then move your body or your eyes to something in the room. This is not positive thinking. It is teaching the brain that not every alarm requires a committee.
If the loop runs your nights, your work, or your ability to decide anything small, it may be anxiety that needs a proper method, not another podcast. Counselling for overthinking is often short and skills-based at first. You do not have to wait until you ‘cannot function’ by someone else’s standard.
